Carlos B. Velázquez

Fr. Carlos B. Velázquez was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Antonio H. and Maria Josefina Velázquez. The eldest of four children, he was raised in San Antonio and attended grade school at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School and St. Mary’s Parochial School. He spent his formative high school years at St. Anthony High School Seminary and later attended Oblate School of Theology, earning a Master of Divinity degree.

On June 8, 1990, Fr. Carlos was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of San Antonio at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. His first assignment was at the Catholic Communities of Gonzales and Waelder, where he served as parochial vicar, and then at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in the same role.

For the next 30 years, Fr. Carlos served the Archdiocese in a variety of roles – as Director of the Office of Vocations, and as pastor of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church, the Church of the Holy Spirit, and Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels.

Fr. Carlos is a member of the National Pastoral Musicians, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Union of Texas, and the Equestrian Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.

He officially took his new position as pastor of San Francesco di Paola on July 1, 2021.
